Couple die in road accident in Bajagoli

A couple from Balehonnur in Chikkamagaluru district died in a bizarre road accident in Bajagoli in Karkala on Monday night.

According to the police, Shankara Acharya (48) and his wife Manjula (40) are the deceased couple. Both were travelling to Jayapura, Balehonnur from Manjarpakle on a motorbike, via Bajagoli National Highway. When they reached Pakkibettu in Mudaru village, their vehicle collided with an overspeeding Maruthi Omni car which was speeding towards Karkala. Both Shankara Acharya and Manjula suffered serious injuries. Though they were shifted to a government hospital, the doctors declared them brought dead.

Shankara was an autorickshaw and bike mechanic. They have a son and a daughter. Their last rites were performed at Gubbibailu in Balehonnur taluk on Tuesday night.

The Omni driver and a boy travelling in the vehicle also sustained injuries.

A case has been registered in Karkala rural police station.
