Heavy shower lash Mudigere, Somwarpet

Parts of Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district and Somwarpet in Kodagu received good rain on Thursday.

The showers lasted for one hour.

Coffee growers were happy as the showers came at a time when coffee plants were drying up. Kottigehara, Banakal, Sabbenahalli, Kirugunda, Horatti and Phalguni areas have received rains.

At the same time, trees have been uprooted in coffee plantations due to gusty winds. There was a hindrance for the movement of vehicles on the Gendehalli road as a tree fell on the road. The local people cleared the road, facilitating smooth flow of traffic.

The underground sewage water overflowed on the road, causing inconvenience to merchants.

In Somwarpet

Several trees were uprooted in Somwarpet, following heavy rains accompanied with gusty winds.

Seven computers in the Town Panchayat office were damaged due to lightning. One of the officials, who was in office, fell unconscious, fearing lightning. He was rushed to hospital.

A coconut tree fell on a house belonging to Sathish at Karekoppa, however, no one suffered any injury.

Traffic was disrupted after branches fell on the national highway at Covercolly.
