The controversy over the Congress contestant from Madikeri constituency has been put at rest with the party nominating ZP member from Suntikoppa, K P Chandrakala, as its candidate.

The battle among three candidates for ticket paved the way for Chandrakala, it is said.

When the party announced the candidature of 2018 candidates, Advocate H S Chandramouli was declared as the candidate of Madikeri constituency. After the announcement, however, AICC spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa posted a remark on Chandramouli on social networking site, which changed the entire picture.

In a development, KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar sought a clarification from the candidate after withholding the provision of B-form to Chandramouli, who went to Bengaluru on April 17 and tried to convince the KPCC Chief regarding his advocacy in the Mehul Choksi case.

He had also written to the Congress state in-charge in this connection. However, the high-command was not convinced, feeling that the case would affect his performance and therefore has changed the candidate.

Nomination

Chandrakala, the newly announced candidate is expected to submit her nomination on Monday or Tuesday.

Napanda Muttappa, who was also an aspirant, had warned of contesting as an independent candidate after the announcement of ticket to Chandramouli earlier.

But as the Choksi case resurfaced, he retained some hope. As the B-form is now served to Chandrakala, Napanda Muttappa has now announced his independent candidature.

A post against minister K J George published by Napanda Muttappa on a social networking site is said to have been the reason for the denial of ticket for Muttappa.

Chandrakala had been trying for the ticket from the last six months.
