Academicians, religious head and other stakeholders felicitated Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa at a programme held at Mangalagangothri on Saturday.
Prof Byrappa is demitting office on Monday after a four-year tenure.
Adichunchanagiri Mutt seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami said that a person who is engaged in spirituality shows higher performance in his work. Prof Byrappa is a spiritual person and also a scientist. “There is a lack of scientists in the country. Those who study abroad and serve as scientists contribute to the growth of foreign countries. The students should contribute to the country by serving in the country,” said the seer.
Bengaluru University former vice chancellor Prof N R Shetty said it was under Byrappa’s tenure that the university finally had an anthem of its own. As a scientist, Prof Byrappa has contributed to the society.
Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (Bengaluru) honorary professor Kattera Suresh also spoke.
Sports and culture
Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said that culture and sports received prominence during the tenure of Prof Byrappa. The sports policy of the University has helped the sports talent to grow. Cash awards for achievers in sports and cultural meets have given a boost to the students.
Speaking after accepting the felicitation, Prof Byrappa said it was cooperation from all in the University that helped him to work for development.
The international hostel, lecture complex, animal house and other basic facilities were inaugurated on the occasion.
