The Home Department has reportedly acquitted IPS officer Varthika Katiyar of the charge of failure to control a communal clash which erupted during Tipu Jayanti celebrations in Kodagu in 2015.
Following the clash, the then Congress government had ordered for a magisterial probe into the incident.
She was transferred to a non-executive post following the incident.
The then Mysuru Deputy Commissioner C Shikha in her magisterial probe had pointed out that absence of the SP from the district headquarters was one of the reasons for the clash.
B K Singh, the then Southern range IGP, had also submitted a separate report to the then DGP.
According to sources, the Home Department, in its order on April 26, had acquitted Varthika of all the charges.
