The Defence Research and Development Organisation on Sunday carried out a successful flight trial of Rustom-2 a medium-altitude, long-endurance and weapon-capable unmanned aerial vehicle - at a military test range at Chitradurga in Karnataka.

"DRDO successfully flew its Rustom-2 at its Aeronautical Test Range at Chalakere at Chitradurga. This flight assumes significance due to the fact that this is the first flight in user configuration with higher power engine," the defence research body said in a statement.

The trial in user configuration carrying the surveillance cameras and sensors comes nearly one and half years after the maiden flight of the indigenous UAV in November 2016.

Designed in the lines of USA's Predator drones, Rustom-2 has an endurance of nearly 250 km.
