Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 | Congress leader Sunil Kedar’s wife gets ticket from Saoner

Nagpur: Congress' Vidarbha stalwart and five-time MLA Sunil Kedar’s wife Anuja Kedar has been fielded from the Saoner seat of Nagpur district.

Anuja Kedar, who is also from an influential political family, is the granddaughter of Barrister Sheshrao Krishnarao Wankhede, a former Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and the former President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Wankhede Stadium has been named after him.

She had already filed the nomination papers from the seat and the declaration of her name was a mere formality. Her husband, the son of former minister Chhatrapal Kedar, Sunil Kedar is a five-time MLA from Saoner.

In December 2023, Sunil Kedar (61) was disqualified as an MLA following his conviction and five-year jail term by a Nagpur court in connection with an alleged Rs 150 crore cooperative bank scam which surfaced 21 years ago.

Sunil Kedar, who is a senior leader from Vidarbha region, is considered close to the Gandhi-family.

On Thursday, the Congress party had announced its first list of 48 candidates, while the second list declared on Saturday named 23 candidates.

In the second list, the party has fielded Krushnarao Pandav from Nagpur South, Shekhar Pramodbabu Shende from Wardha, Prof Vasant Chinduji Purke from Ralegaon and Kailas Kisanrao Gortantyal from Jalna among others.

The party has also given tickets to Kalu Badheliya from Kandivali East and Yashwant Jayprakash Singh from Charkop seat.
