A herd of elephants damaged crops at Kogile in Banakal hobli. Elephants have damaged crops in Kogile, Bhinnadi, Kodebail, Chegu and other villages in the last 20 years.

On Sunday morning, elephants damaged paddy, banana, coffee and black pepper crops at Kogile and Kodebail. The paddy fields belong to Suresh and Harish. The elephants also damaged the shed of a house at Kodebail and paddy fields belonging to Mohan.

The villagers chased the elephants back to the forest.

Ranjith Kogile, a resident, said, “Fear has gripped the villagers with the elephants reaching near doors of houses. The labourers are scared to work in coffee estates. Authorities should chalk out a project to translocate the elephants.”
