Cast: Adah Sharma, Anupriya Goenka

Director: Prasad Kadam

Rating: 3.5/5

Actor Adah Sharma's latest short film Chuha Billi is a sincere attempt at storytelling that is likely to appeal to those who are fond of dark conventional stories. It revolves around the bond between a mentally-challenged young woman, played by the Hasee Toh Phasee star, and her friend, played by Anupriya Goenka.

The basic premise is quite simple but manages to make an impact due to the deft execution. The screenplay relies on 'showing' rather than 'telling', making it easy for the viewer to relate to the action. The characters have been fleshed out properly despite the fact that the film is merely 15 minutes long. This adds depth to the narrative, making it more memorable.

The scenes highlighting the bond between the two characters have come out well and have a high relatability factor during the initial portions. The climax is quite shocking and takes one by surprise. It might, however, not click with the faint-hearted. The closing sequences also explain the reason behind the short film's hatke title.

Coming to the performances, Adah is the heart and soul of Chuha Billi. The actor appears to be in top form and impresses the janta with her versatility. The star brings out the insecurities faced by her character while letting her eyes and expressions do the talking.

Anupriya delivers a restrained performance and. Her chemistry with her 'friend' is quite crackling, to say the least.

The minimalist background score gels with the narrative, adding an eerie feel to the film especially towards the climax. The makers of Chuha Billi have refrained from including any songs, which makes the action appear more realistic. The production values are up to the mark given the fact that this is a short film as opposed to a feature. The lighting does a good job of setting the mood for the film.

The other technical aspects are passable.
