Four reasons why Alia Bhatt is the best choice for 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'

The recently-released teaser of actor Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi, a film based on the life of a sex worker, has created a fair deal of buzz due to its hard-hitting presentation. A section of the Twitterverse, however, is not too happy about the decision to cast the Highway star in the titular role as she is 'too young' for the part. While everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, here is a look at why Alia may be the right choice for the film.

She has the acting chops

Alia garnered a fair deal of attention when she played the role of a labourer in the critically-acclaimed movie Udta Punjab. The story revolved around her character's journey while highlighting her attempts at rebuilding her life following a shocking incident. The trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi suggests that the journey of a resilient protagonist may be in the same zone, which makes Alia the default choice for the biggie.

The film needs Alia

Alia became the talk of the town when Raazi emerged as a big hit at the box office despite being perceived as a 'woman-centric' movie. Her star power may help Gangubai Kathiawadi rake in the moolah, reaching a wider audience.

Her first film with Bhansali

The film has piqued the curiosity of fans as it marks the powerhouse performer's first collaboration with ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This would not have been the case had the makers opted for a more established/seasoned performer like Deepika Padukone or Priyanka Chopra as the stars have already worked with him in the past.

Alia to unleash the rage?

Alia will be seen in the role of a 'boss lady' in a few sequences in the film. These scenes apparently require her to channel her inner rage. The actor has played vulnerable characters in films such as Dear Zindagi and Udta Punjab, She, however, proved that she can do justice to intense scenes as well in a brief sequence from Sadak 2, which saw her lashing out at her reel father. Gangubai Kathiawadi might showcase a different side of Alia if the execution is up to the mark.
