NCB arrests actor Armaan Kohli in drugs case

Bollywood actor and celebrity Armaan Kohli has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) as it continues to cripple the nexus between the entertainment industry and drug mafia.

Kohli (49) was arrested along with drug peddler Ajay Raju Singh. NCB’s zonal director Sameer Wankhede confirmed both arrests.

“As part of the ongoing zero tolerance policy against drug trafficking in Mumbai, a team of NCB Mumbai conducted a raid in the morning on Saturday and intercepted one major drug peddler Ajay Raju Singh from near Haji Ali and recovered 25 grams of MD from him. Based on his interrogation, Armaan Kohli too was arrested,” Wakhede said.

The duo will be produced in the court on Sunday afternoon.

According to the NCB, Singh is a history sheeter as he has been previously involved in a 2018 case of Anti-Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Police wherein a huge quantity of Ephedrine was recovered.

“A follow up operation was launched in the afternoon based on the preliminary interrogation of the accused Ajay Raju Singh. Based on his revelation, a team of NCB Mumbai raided the house of Armaan Kohli in suburban Andheri and recovered a small quantity of Cocaine from him,” the NCB said.

NCB Mumbai has registered Crime No. 82/21 in this case.

Armaan Kohli has been arrested u/s 21(a), 27(a), 28, 29, 30 and 35 of NDPS Act and Ajay Raju Singh has been arrested under 22b (a), 27A, 28, 29, 30 and 35 of NDPS Act.

“Till now, the investigation has revealed that the case has international linkages as the cocaine seized has South American origin. NCB Mumbai is probing the route and linkages used to bring the seized cocaine to Mumbai and the involvement of other traffickers. Further investigation is under way,” Wankhede said.

Hailing from a Bollywood family, Armaan is son of film director Rajkumar Kohli and actress Nishi.

Armaan made his debut as a leading actor in his father's 1992 film Virodhi.

In September 2013, he joined the reality television series 'Bigg Boss 7' as a contestant. On 16 December 2013, Kohli was arrested for alleged physical abuse with his co-participant Sofia Hayat during the show but was later granted bail.

Kohli made another comeback to Bollywood after 12 years, playing a negative role in the Salman Khan-starrer 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' released in 2015.
