Of pals and platonic love

Last Updated 11 November 2011, 20:08 IST

Can friends be just that? Can it be platonic plane or physicality inevitable as next logical reasoning for that relationship? Well, the premise of such exploration is not new on celluloid. Lending himself to that long scroll is Venu Sriram with Oh! My Friend.

Does Sriram narrate anything novel? Sadly, so intent is Sriram trying to press home his proposition, that he simply gets carried away and the film suffers in the process. OMF becomes contrived and all artifice that, despite honest performances by its lead players and technical finesse, the film just falls flat.

At the fulcrum of OMF is Chandu, an aspiring singer and schoolteacher Siri, schoolmates-cum-bosom buddies. While Chandu flips for collegiate Ritu, spurred on by Siri, she, on the other, has her heart set on Navdeep, a US gent.

How does OMF pan out? Suffice to say Siddharth sizzles, Shruti sparkles, Navdeep is neat while Hansika is just a pretty babe. Languid and lethargic, OMF, is all plastic with no passion.
