South Kanara Ophthalmic Society, in association with Ophthalmologists in and around Dakshina Kannada, will organise eye donation awareness fortnight from August 25 to September 8.
Speaking to media persons on Friday, Society President Dr Sudhir Hegde said that “The Gift of Sight”, a 5-km run and 2-km walk, will be organised on September 2 as a part of this programme.
The event will start from Mangaluru City Corporation and will culminate at Nehru Maidan. The society has been supported in this event by Rotary International, Round Table, Samvitti Capital, Bharat Motors, Abharan Jewellers, Marian Builders, Citadel Developers and Zeusse Gym, he added.
The society is involved with all medical colleges in Dakshina Kannada and aims at strengthening the eye bank network in the district. It has also launched a unique awareness mobile-led wall mounted vehicle, which will travel all over the district in a specified time and will play videos about eye donation and its importance, he explained.
