Farming gains momentum post rains

Farmers have intensified their agricultural activities as rain receded in the district.

The agriculturists said that there was an urgent necessity for transplantation as paddy seedlings prepared by them are now ready to be planted.

Transplantation work is in full swing in the fields at Kadanuru, Arameri, Mallambatti, Kakotuparambu, Arji, Perumbadi, Balugodu, Bittangala, Nangala, Maggula, Aimangala and other areas.

Flooded paddy fields are gradually turning back to normalcy as the flood level has receded.

The flood situation in the river Cauvery at Betri, Nelyahudikeri, and Karadigodu have decreased.

However, paddy fields were inundated in 15 acres of land in the villages in Bettadalli Gram Panchayat limits. The paddy seedlings have been spoiled as they remained inundated for the last 11 days.

Coffee, cardamom and ginger crops have been affected with disease in Heggadamane, Beedalli, Hanchinalli, Kothnalli, Beekalli, Nadnalli, Taddikoppa and Mallalli villages, due to increase in humidity.

All villages in Bettadalli Gram Panchayat are in darkness for the last 12 days as the power supply has not been restored.

A house belonging to Deepak in Hattihole village was damaged after a tree fell on his roof.

Houses of Mahadevamma in Sulimalthe, Jayamma in Kuguru, Lakshminarayana and Kaveramma in Haralli, have also been damaged.

In Virajpet, houses belonging to K N Belliyappa and K Biddappa have been damaged.

The amount of rainfall in various places during the last 24 hours ending on Wednesday morning 8.30, is as follows: Shantalli: 91 mm, Somwarpet Kasba: 50.80 mm, Shanivarasanthe: 27.20 mm, Kodlipet: 26 mm, Kushalnagar: 5.40 mm and Suntikoppa: 21 mm. Virajpet: 12 mm, Hudikeri: 40.50 mm, Srimangala: 42.40 mm, Ponnampet: 14.20 mm, Ammatti: 30 mm and Balele: 28.50 mm.
