There is a need to bring those who neglect Kannada on the right path, said Zilla Kannada Sahitya Sammelana president Dr D S Jayappa Gowda.

Speaking at the Sammelana, he said “The state government has implemented Kannada as an administrative language several decades ago. There is a need to impart training in Kannada for the government employees. A language faces threat when it fails as a medium of instruction. The Kannada language is facing a threat of medium of education.”

Coming down heavily on the government’s plan to have 1,000 English medium government schools, he said several writers including Kambar has opposed the move of the state government. The primary schools should have Kannada as a medium of instruction.

Further, he said that there is a need to improve basic facilities in tourist spots in the district.

The district needs a horticulture university and the government should sanction the same. The distance between writers, artists and the common man should reduce. The common man should take the help of writers and artists.

A colourful procession added colour to the procession of the Sammelana president. The procession was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner M K Srirangaiah, from BGS School premises. Schoolchildren, Scouts and Guides, NSS volunteers, Anganwadi and Asha workers, SHG members, Suggi Kunitha, Halli Vadya, Kamsale, Dollu Kunitha, Gombe Kunitha, Keelukudure and others were part of the procession.

Sammelana president Dr D S Jayappa Gowda and his wife Sulochana Jayappa Gowda were taken in a procession in a specially decked vehicle.
