Xiaomi earlier this month rolled out the Redmi Watch Move, a budget budget smart wearable in India.

It looks like a premium digital wristwatch but costs less than Rs 2,000. I have been using it for a week and here are my thoughts on the latest gadget from the house of Xiaomi.

Design and build quality

As noted earlier, the Redmi Watch Move is a pretty-looking wearable. It has a smooth curved display at the top with a squarish lozenge-shaped curvaceous enclosure, which is made of polycarbonate material.

However, the matte metallic finish does a good job of making us believe it, is a premium watch. Also, when held in hand, we can feel how sturdy the watch's build quality is.

The company offers the Redmi Watch Move in four colours-- black drift, blue blaze, gold rush and silver sprint. Our review unit is the latter.
.
It flaunts a super bright 1.85-inch AMOLED display with a sleek 2.5D curved design, 390 x 450 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and support for peak brightness of 600 nits. It has 74 per cent screen-to-body ratio, offering more space to view time and notifications more clearly.

It also boasts of Always-On Display tech. With this, the user need not have to wake the screen every time, he/she wants to see the the time or any notification. But, I prefer the 'raise wrist to wake' feature, as it saves a lot of battery life.
.Apple's robust security prevented fraud worth $9 billion on App Store worldwide.
Thanks super bright display, the watch faces look very pretty. The company offers 200 plus watch faces for the user to match the outfit. Further, with the soon-to-be-released update, Watch will allow users to create custom watch faces using the Mi Fitness app.
.
Also, it features a fully functional digital crown with tactile feedback when rotating to navigate through the user interface of the Watch.

The TPU strap of the Redmi Watch Move is of amazing quality. It is soft and light. Once you wear the watch, you don't feel any irritation at all.

Also, thanks to the quick-release strap mechanism, users can easily remove and dock new colour straps with ease.

User interface and performance

Setting up the Redmi Watch Move is easy. The user has to install Mi Fitness and turn on the Bluetooth app. It gets instantly recognised on the phone and the entire process gets over in a few minutes.

It took me less than 10 minutes to pair the watch with a companion Android phone. It supports mobile with Android 6 or newer versions and iPhone with iOS 14 or later versions. But, the device is more optimised for Xiaomi devices to deliver the best user experience.

The user interface is pretty straight forward. you can swipe left or right to view widgets. If you press the digital crown, it takes you app drawer.

And, swiping down, it shows you latest notification. If you swipe up, it takes you to settings and offer shortcuts to torch, phone finder app, do not disturb mode and silence mode.
.
It runs HyperOS and can monitor heart rate, SpO₂ (blood-oxygen saturation), stress, and sleep cycles — including REM (Rapid Eye Movements) — offering deep insights into both day and night wellness. It can also track menstrual cycles as well.

It can track more than 140 workout modes including Outdoor Running, Walking, Outdoor cycling, Rowing, Elliptical Jump Rope and more. It promises 98.5% tracking accuracy powered by Xiaomi R&D. It can help users track runs, monitor calories, or yoga sessions.
.
I tested the step counter and heart rate features of the Redmi Watch Move with premium smartwatches, and the results were almost the same. So, very impressed with these two features. Even sleep pattern tracking is also praiseworthy.

For India, Xiaomi has ensured the Redmi Watch Move supports Hindi in addition to English. The company has confirmed to Deccan Herald that it has plans to bring support for more Indian languages in the coming months.

With a 300mAh cell capacity, it can deliver up to 14 days of battery life. With AoD on, it can last for five to six days.
.
Final thoughts

Xiaomi's Redmi Watch Move is an excellent budget fitness companion. It does great with tracking physical activities like walking and other physical activities. Also, the heart rate monitor and sleep pattern tracking are trustworthy. And, another key aspect of the device, which impressed me the most was the long battery life.

Redmi Watch Move is available in four colours-- black drift, blue blaze, gold rush and silver sprint-- for Rs 1,999.
.Xiaomi 15 review: Powerful phone with impressive Leica camera .
Get the latest news on new launches, gadget reviews, apps, cybersecurity, and more on personal technology only on DH Tech
