Almost 11 years after the Shramjeevi Express blast, a local court here on Saturday handed the death sentence to one of the two accused, Mohammed Alamgir, in the case.

The court will deliver its verdict on the other accused, Obedur Rehman alias Babu Bhai, on August 2. Alamgir alias Roni and Rehman are citizens of Bangladesh. Two other accused, Hilal and Nafiqul, are currently lodged in a jail in Andhra Pradesh in another case.

A powerful blast ripped through the Delhi-bound train between Harpalganj and Koiripur railway stations in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district, about 200 km from here, on July 28, 2005, killing 12 people and injuring 50.
