<p>New Delhi: Around 27,000 women, including 835 this year, were recruited to paramilitary forces in the past ten years, and the government is planning to recruit another 4,138 women next year, the Ministry of Home Affairs informed Lok Sabha on Tuesday.</p><p>Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said the number of women in paramilitary forces has risen from 15,499 in 2014 to 42,190 this year. At present, there are 9,48,204 personnel in CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles (AR) and women account for 4.44% as on September 30.</p><p>In a written reply to queries raised by Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh, the minister said 835 women – AR: 8, BSF: 152, CISF: 209, CRPF: 276, ITBP: 62 and SSB: 128 – were recruited this year.</p>.<p>Another 5,469 women AR: 42, BSF: 1,849, CISF: 2,344, CRPF: 216, ITBP: 960 and SSB: 58 – are in the process of being recruited this year.</p><p>Providing details of the planned recruitment of 4,138 women next year, Rai said BSF will recruit the largest number at 2,419 followed by CISF 818, ITBP 456, CRPF 242, SSB 103 and AR 100.</p><p>“It is a constant endeavour of the Ministry to increase the number of women in CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces),” Rai said.</p><p>While paramilitary forces have a sanctioned strength of 10,55,462 personnel, at present there are 1,07,258 vacancies as on September 30 this year.</p><p>CISF has the highest proportion of 7.02% women in its ranks – 10,641 out of 1,51,448 while other forces have less than 4.5% women.</p><p>SSB has 4.43% women (4,101 out of 92,366) while BSF has 4.41% (11,195 out of 2,53,775), ITBP has 4.05% (3,642 out of 89,838) and AR 4.01% (2,535 out of 63,173).</p><p>CRPF has the least proportion of women at 3.38% – 10,076 women out of 2,97,604.
