Cong to make announcement to placate Gujjar community

(Sawai Madhopur), DHNS: As the Gujjar agitation across Rajasthan entered fifth day, state ministers have assured that government has decided a announce an impeccable solution during the assembly proceedings on Wednesday.

Saying that a huge relief will be announced for Gujjar community by Congress government, the state minister for sports Ashok Chandana said, "Congress government in Rajasthan has decided to announce a big decision in favour of the Gujjar community during the ongoing assembly session on Wednesday. We are hopeful after that he will call off the protests across Rajasthan". Chandana told media after attending a meeting chaired by chief minister Ashok Gehlot in which all MLAs from Gujjar community including deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and a core committee of Congress party were present.

Also another MLA and senior Congress leader Jitendra Singh, who was also present in the meeting said, "During the meeting, we discussed the best possible solution for the Gujjar community. The decision will be announced tomorrow We are the advocates of the society and believe going through the legal route", Singh added.

Gujjar community in a statement had threatened Congress government of withdrawing their support in the Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, even on the fifth day, the Gujjar community did not leave the railway tracks in Sawai Madhopur. Speaking to DH, Col Kirodi Singh Bainsla said, "Since last 14 years we have been cheated by both the parties. I will not move from the tracks unless the decision is implemented. just forming committees will not help anymore".

The issue of protesting Gurjars also was raised in the state Assembly after BJP and other smaller parties lodging their protest in the house. During the zero hour, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs Joginder Singh Awana and Wajib Ali stormed the well, demanding that the government make its stand on Gurjar reservation clear.

However, the blockades on the Agra-Jaipur-Bikaner National Highway-11 in Dausa district, a state highway in Nainwa of Bundi district, Malarna road in Sawai Madhopur and the Karauli-Hindaun road at Budla village in Karauli district continued. However, no untoward incident has been reported so far.

Gujjar agitation began from Friday after the community members sit-in on railway tracks in Malarna Dungar of Sawai Madhopur for an indefinite period. They demand five per sent reservation for the Gujjar, Raika-Rebari, Gadia Luhar, Banjara and the Gadaria communities, and have to refused to move from the tracks until the demand is met through an official announcement.
