A Delhi Police constable accidentally opened fire near Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 7, Race Course Road residence late on Wednesday. Nobody was injured in the incident on Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Marg. Police confirmed that three shots were fired from the AK-47 of a PCR van's gunman.

“The incident was reported from PCR van Victor 35 which was at a parking lot near the Prime Minister's residence. The gunman has been identified as constable Ramesh," said a police officer.

The in-charge of the PCR van, head constable Amarpal, immediately informed the central control room at Delhi Police headquarters at ITO. It was informed that Ramesh accidentally opened fire while taking charge. “All PCR vans in the area were rushed to the spot. Senior police officers rushed to the spot and security was also tightened in the area,” the officer added.

Ramesh is likely to face disciplinary action, including suspension. A decision is likely to be taken by Senior Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deepak Mishra on Thursday.
