Ramya calls PM 'bird's dropping', sparks row

Last Updated 01 November 2018, 18:32 IST

Congress Social Media Cell head Ramya Divya Spandana on Thursday kicked up yet another row with a tweet about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Statue of Unity.

She posted a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi standing at the feet of the Patel monument with the caption "Is that bird dropping?"

This has led to a huge backlash on social media.

Many on Twitter felt that Ramya's tweet was new low in political discourse in the country.

Reacting to this, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra attacked Congress president Rahul Gandhi saying the values of the Congress are dropping."

A normal Indian appears to be "bird's dropping" to them, while a dynasty (the Gandhi family) is the power centre for them, Patra said.

"This is the real culture" of the Congress party. They miss no opportunity to abuse the prime minister of India, Patra said.

"It is the same party which called the prime minister 'neech'. Shashi Tharoor called him a scorpion and now Divya Spandana says that he is bird's dropping," Patra said.

Despite criticism from the ruling party and on Twitter, Spandana remained defiant.

"When you’re done huffing & puffing take a breath & hold a mirror to yourselves. My views are mine. I don't give two hoots about yours. I'm not going to clarify what I meant and what I didn't cos you don't deserve one," she tweeted.
