EC works without bias, Rahul Gandhi has 'infiltrators-first' agenda: BJP reacts to Congress leader's fresh charges

'While the Election Commission of India is functioning without bias, Rahul Gandhi is busy weakening democracy, misleading citizens, and trying to create a situation like Bangladesh and Nepal,' Anurag Thakur said.

New Delhi: Former Union minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, by questioning the Election Commission and other constitutional bodies, was attempting to destabilise Indian democracy and promote unrest under an “infiltrators-first” agenda, and warned that such actions could push India towards a situation similar to Bangladesh or Nepal.

At a press conference at the BJP headquarters after Gandhi’s explosive press conference on coordinated deletion of voters, Thakur said that the EC is functioning without bias. “While the Election Commission of India is functioning without bias, Rahul Gandhi is busy weakening democracy, misleading citizens, and trying to create a situation like Bangladesh and Nepal,” Thakur said.

Thakur said that Gandhi’s press conference was not a “hydrogen bomb” but a “phuljhadi” (sparkler) and questioned if the Congress won the Aland constituency in 2023 by “vote chori” (voter theft).

He also said that by repeatedly alleging that the EC was functioning with bias, Gandhi was showing a lack of faith in Indian democracy. “They have made the politics of allegations their ornament. When the Election Commission asks them to verify their allegations, they turn their back and run away. When asked to file an affidavit, they back out. Making false and baseless allegations has become a habit of Rahul Gandhi,” Thakur alleged.

Thakur also defended Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and said that in the past, former CECs like MS Gill and TS Seshan had crossed the moral line to join Congress; Gill had become a minister in the UPA government while Seshan had fought the Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket.
