FIR filed over anti-India slogans at JNU

Amid charges that anti-India slogans were raised on February 9 at a cultural programme on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, police have registered a case of sedition against unknown persons on Thursday.

“A case under section 124(A), 34, and 120(B) have been registered against unknown persons at Vasant Kunj (North) Police station,’’ said Rajan Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)
The case was registered after BJP MP from East Delhi Maheish Girri filed an FIR against the event organisers.

The FIR blamed Left unions like Democratic Students Union (DSU), All India Students’ Association (AISA), All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and Students’ Federation of India (SFI).

The FIR said these organisations had “disturbed” the internal security of the country.

“As a peoples’ representative, I was very much concerned and painful regarding the anti-national slogans and anti-national activities conducted in the prestigious campus of JNU,” said Girri’s complaint.

On Thursday, Left students held demonstration at the administrative wing of the varsity, claiming that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) was involved in propaganda against them.
