Senior Congress leader P C Chacko has resigned from the party ahead of Kerala Assembly polls, according to ANI.

Stating that the Congress is a "great tradition", Chacko said, "Being a Congressman is a prestigious thing but today in Kerala nobody can be a Congressman."

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought the Union government's response on a PIL against denial of opportunity to eligible and willing female candidates to join the National Defence Academy and give them a chance to emerge as future leaders of the Indian Armed force.

A bench of Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian issued notice to the Union government's Ministry of Defence, National Defence Academy and the UPSC on the petition by advocate Kush Kalra.
