Ganga canal closure may lead to water shortage in Delhi-NCR

Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh might face a shortage of water as the Ganga Canal connecting from Haridwar to Kanpur has been closed for cleaning and maintenance. The canal will stay closed for 20 days and will reopen on November 4. Devotees travelling to Haridwar may encounter certain difficulties. “The Ganga Canal is closed every year for cleaning and repairs. Due to the closure. there might a shortage of water in the areas of Uttar Pradesh, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, NCR, now the Ganges canal will be opened on the day of Diwali on November 4,” said Shivkumar Kaushik, SDO Ganga Canal Mayapur, Haridwar.
