<p>The Union home ministry has upgraded security of retired Lt General K S Brar, who was attacked in London. Brar had led Operation Blue Star to flush out Sikh radicals from Golden Temple 28 years ago.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The ministry’s decision came in the backdrop of input from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), which carried out a security audit of General Brar. Brar has Z category cover as he faces threat from Sikh radicals active in countries like France, England, Germany and Canada. <br /><br />Sources said Brar and his wife, back in Mumbai on Wednesday, will have to be relocated to some other undisclosed destination given the fact that media glare on his attack has exposed his residential address making him vulnerable to future attacks. <br /><br />With the help of Pakistan’s ISI, the pro-Khalistan outfits have been making botched attempts to revive militancy in Punjab. The Union home secretary is also said to have told the IB to conduct security audit to ensure safety of Gen Brar.<br /><br />It is not known what steps officials will take now since even his London-based daughter has become vulnerable to possible attacks from radical Sikhs. Ministry sources said that pro-Khalistan Sikhs settled in the UK openly espouse their cause of separate nation by publishing magazines and other literature since they face least resistance from London authorities. The ministry officials even contacted Indian high commission in London to find out the details of Brar attack and learnt that Brar had not kept them in the loop about their visit. <br /><br />After the attack, Brar in his media interviews had said that he would intimate army officials in Mumbai about his movement as he felt comfortable interacting with army personnel. <br /><br /> Home ministry officers were of the view that the defence ministry should have intimated to them about the VIP’s movement so that they can arrange security for them. <br /><br />It is not being ruled out that a new circular may be issued to ensure that people enjoying security cover should intimate to them about their movements even while going abroad. For foreign visits, the Indian missions provide security and even intimate the respective country about the VIP’s threat perception. </p>
