Indian Navy orders new amphibious fighters

The 800-tonne LCU will be propelled by two diesel engines and can carry main battle tanks, armoured vehicles BMPs, and troops.

The Rs 2,170-crore contract was signed with Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers.

The first ship will be delivered in 35 months.  Indian Navy currently has nine large and medium sized amphibious ships in its inventory along with INS Jalashwa, purchased from the USA at a cost of $ 48 million. Jalashwa is the second largest ship of the navy.
