<p>New Delhi: India’s defence exports crossed over Rs 23,500 crore in FY25, touching a new record with healthy contributions from the private sector, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said here on Tuesday.</p><p>“Defence exports surge to a record high of Rs 23,622 crore in 2024-25, a growth of 12.04 per cent over 2023-24,” Singh said in a social media post. This is an increase of Rs 2,539 crore from FY24’s defence export volume of Rs 21,083 crore.</p><p>With nearly 43 per cent jump compared to the last fiscal’s export, defence public sector undertakings contributed Rs 8,389 crore in the overall defence export in FY 25, while the private sector recorded a figure of Rs 15,233 crore, says a defence ministry official.</p>.Rajnath Singh urges Netherlands counterpart to ensure Dutch firms don't provide weapons, tech to Pak.<p>Over the past decade, India's defence exports have surged from Rs 686 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 21,083 crore in 2023-24, marking a 30-fold increase with India supplying military equipment to nearly 100 countries - mostly low and middle income nations - though a few items are also exported to the USA and France.</p><p>India’s diverse export portfolio includes bulletproof jackets, Dornier aircraft, Chetak helicopters, fast interceptor boats, lightweight torpedoes, and made-in-Bihar boots for the Russian Army, according to a recent Defence Ministry report.</p><p>In the last few years, New Delhi has also sold Brahmos cruise missiles, Pinaka rockets and launchers, offshore patrol vessels, Akash air defence missiles and 155 mm advanced towed artillery guns. Other export items include simulators, night vision devices, lightweight torpedoes, armoured protection vehicles and several types of radars.</p><p>“India has evolved from a largely import-dependent military force to one increasingly focused on self-reliance and indigenous production. In a major boost to defence exports, a wide range of items from ammunition, arms, sub-systems/systems and parts & components have been exported to around 80 countries in the just-concluded financial year,” the official said in a statement.</p><p>However, according to the latest report from Stockholm International Peace Research Institute that tracks arms sales around the world, India doesn’t figure among the world’s top 25 exporters of military items, but countries like Brazil, South Africa, Jordan, Iran and Turkiya are in the list.</p><p>For FY26, India targets a defence export of Rs 30,000 crore and defence production of Rs 1.6 lakh crore, even though the long-term aim is to have a defence export of Rs 50,000 crore by 2029.</p>
