16 active Covid-19 cases in Karnataka; officials say no cause for concern

Bengaluru: Karnataka has reported 16 active cases of Covid-19 as of this week. Eight fresh cases have been reported since May 12, according to the state-wise data published by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

According to the data from a reliable source in the health department, the state recorded nearly 30 cases of Covid-19 in May. In total, over 40 positive cases of Covid were recorded this year in Karnataka, after nearly 3,500 people were tested.

None of the cases had any complications or required hospitalisations, said sources in the state health department, which maintained that there is no cause for concern.

"Covid surveillance is part of our regular surveillance activity. We check ILI-SARI cases for any spike, and as soon as anything is seen, we also check Covid status. Nothing alarming has been observed, as of now," said State health commissioner Sivakumar KB.

There are at least 257 active Covid cases in India, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. Two deaths linked to Covid have also been reported in Maharashtra, whereas one death due to the virus has been reported in Kerala.

A Covid spike has been reported in Hong Kong and Singapore. These cases are believed to be linked to the Omicron subvariant descendant JN.1 and its descendants, which will cause a mild infection.

Symptoms of a Covid-19 infection: Fever, muscle weakness, sore throat, coughing and stuffy or runny nose, fatigue and headache.
