17 hurt as bus falls into gorge near Nanjangud

The injured persons have been identified as- Ningashetty, Putta, Chikkamadashetty, Mahesh, Manju, Rangashetty, Shantha, Sh ankar, Umashankar, Basavashetty, Raghavendra, Lakshmi, Puttamma, Puttamadamma and Manjula of Chamarajanagar taluk, Rajendra of Yaraganahalli in Mysore.

Driver of the bus Saleem who also suffered injuries has been rushed to K R Hospital in Mysore. The mishap occurred when the driver of the bus in his bid to avoid hitting a two-wheeler that suddenly came at the crossing, rammed into an electric pole. The bus turned turtle after hitting the pole. Had the mishap occurred on the bridge constructed across river Kapila, just a few metres away from the spot of mishap, the intensity of the accident would have been severe, said locals. Fortunately the bus had crossed the bridge and was entering Nanjangud town. Police have registered a case.
