It had been their third protest, starting March 1, as no one had responded to their problems. Medical Education Minister Ramadas had sent a fax a month ago promising to take a decision on their problems in the Cabinet meeting. However, there was no news from the Minister since.
In desperation, Bhagyamma and Pratibha had threatened to end their lives if the government failed to fulfil their demand. They are said to have consumed sleeping pills around 1 pm on Monday in front of the medical institute.
