<p class="title">The newly introduced mobile application which helps passengers book and cancel unreserved tickets has received an overwhelming response in the railway stations coming under Palakkad division.</p>.<p class="bodytext">After launching a week-long campaign on ‘UTS on mobile’ app at Mangaluru Central Railway Station on Saturday, Palakkad Division Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Pratap Singh Shami said one need not stand in a long queue to purchase railway tickets after downloading the mobile app for purchasing unreserved tickets. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The app is available free on the Android and Windows platforms and is aimed at cashless, paperless and queue-free booking of unreserved tickets. Anyone having a smart phone can take unreserved railway tickets in the convenience of home or office and passengers can use ‘show ticket’ option to show the ticket to ticket checking staff when asked for.</p>.<p class="bodytext">At Mangaluru, 7,000 tickets are sold across the counter daily. With the introduction of the app, 1.5 % to 2 % of tickets are now being reserved through the app. “We want ensure that 10% of the tickets are reserved through the app in Palakkad division in the next one year,” said DRM.</p>.<p class="bodytext">For using the app, the passenger has to register his/her mobile number, name, city, booking train, class, ticket, number of passenger and frequently travelled routes. Upon successful registration, Railway wallet (R-Wallet) will be created automatically with zero balance to the passenger. There will be no extra cost for creating R-Wallet. The R-Wallet can be recharged either at a UTS counter or by logging on to https://www.utsonmobile.indianrail.gov.in</p>.<p class="bodytext">The DRM said that the division was also planning to extend the digital payments to other areas such as availing catering services and payments for vehicle parking at stations.</p>
