Two labourers were killed on the spot and 13 people were injured after a KSRTC bus ploughed into a crowded place in Alur town in the district on Sunday morning.

The victims have been identified as Srinivas, 24, and Kariyaiah, 29, both residents of the town. The driver of the bus, Mohan and conductor Chandrashekar, were among those injured in the accident.

Police said that the accident occurred due to brake failure in the bus. The bus was on its way to Alur from Bikkodu in Belur taluk.

The bus initially rammed a lorry coming from the opposite direction and went on to hit a car and a bike. It also dashed against a few buildings before it veered off the road. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Alur.
