3 arrested for theft, slaughtering of cattle, 1 booked for spreading false info in Karnataka

Mangaluru: The police have arrested three persons in connection with a case of cattle theft reported near Thumbay in Bantwal rural police station limits on August 14. The remains of the stolen cattle were found in the same locality on the following day, August 15.

A case was registered at Bantwal Rural Police Station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Sections 4 and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, and Section 11(D) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

According to the police, the arrested accused are: Irshad (34), resident of Chembugudde, Ullal, Mohammed Mansoor (48), resident of Kudroli, Mangaluru, Abdul Azeem (18), resident of Kannur, Mangaluru

They were taken into custody on September 5.

The police said that during interrogation, it was revealed that the trio were also accused in another case registered at Uppinangady Police Station on September 4, under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020.

Police said that investigation into both cases is in progress.

Man booked for spreading false information

A case has also been registered against a man for allegedly spreading false information and attempting to disrupt communal harmony in connection with a cattle theft incident in Bantwal taluk.

On the night of September 4, miscreants reportedly stole and killed cattle from a shed near a house at Kadambu in Perne village, Bantwal. During discussions about the incident, one Narasimha Shetty Mani allegedly made false statements and circulated a video on social media.

According to police, the video not only contained misinformation about the incident but also carried provocative remarks intended to create hatred and enmity between communities. The police said that such content could damage communal harmony and cause fear among the public.

Following this, Bantwal Rural Police registered a case against Narasimha Shetty Mani. Officials said further legal action will be taken, and investigations are underway.
