3 drown in Sharavati river

Three persons drowned in the backwaters of  River Sharavati near Malur village in Sagar taluk on Monday evening.

According to sources, the deceased have been identified as Prabhavathi (24), her husband Suresh (28) and her sister Pushpavathi (21).

Suresh, a resident of Kudumallige village in Tirthahalli taluk and a hotelier in Bangalore, had married Prabhavathi of Malur village a few years ago. Pushpavathi was pursuing BA at Indira Gandhi College, Sagar. The trio had come to Malur to take part in a religious ceremony. After the ceremony, the three went to the backwaters.

When Prabhavathi slipped and fell in the river, while washing her hands, Suresh jumped to rescue her. Panicked, Pushpavathi too jumped into the river to rescue the two and all of them drowned, said the police.

The Kargal police have registered a case.
