Four Bengaluru-based engineers, including a probationary Excise Inspector, died on the spot as the car hit a container from behind at D Chikkagondanahalli, near Channarayapatna, early on Saturday.
Chetan (28), also probationary Excise Inspector, Manjunath (29), Vikram (29) and Abhishek (29), of Bengaluru, are deceased. All the four were friends and heading towards Chikkamagaluru from Bengaluru in a car. The car hit the container from behind and the contained towed the car for a few distance.
According to the Police, a total of eight friends in two cars were bounding Chikkamagaluru and the friends coming in another car, stopped the container, which was towing the car.
District in-charge Minister K Gopalaiah visited mortuary where the dead body were kept.
