6 killed as car collides with lorry near Shivamogga

Six people were killed and another sustained injuries in a road accident near Ayanur on the Shivamogga-Sagar stretch of NH-206 on Monday.

According to police, the deceased are Ashok, Keshav, Kiran, Karthik, Naveen and Marimuthu, residents of Brahmeshwar village, Hosanagar taluk in the district. All the victims are aged between 25 and 30 years.

They were working as daily wagers in a stone quarry. They were heading towards Shivamogga in the car to watch a film. The incident took place when the speeding car, coming from Sagar, collided with the lorry transporting liquor bottles.

It is said that Ashoka, who was driving the car, had overtaken two cars earlier before hitting the lorry coming from Shivamogga. Mahantesh, the driver of the lorry, is undergoing treatment at McGann hospital in Shivamogga. The Kumsi police have registered a case.
