<p>A total of 65,258 claim applications for 69,099 depositor accounts have been received in the IMA case. Of these, about 45,000 claims have been verified to date while the verification of the rest is likely to be completed within a month, the state government informed the high court on Wednesday. </p>.<p>IAS officer Harsh Gupta, the competent authority appointed in the IMA case under the Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishments (KPID) Act, 2004, stated in an affidavit that applications until January 3, 2021 (the extended deadline), had claimed a total of Rs 2,695.1 crore. </p>.<p>The competent authority has filed an application before the special court for finalising the mode and manner of the settlement of claims. </p>.<p>The affidavit also stated that the additional chief secretary, revenue department, had written to the principal chief commissioner of income tax, seeking a refund of about Rs 134 crore paid by the IMA group in income tax. </p>.<p>A division bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka directed the government to produce a copy of the court order along with the additional chief secretary’s letter. The bench said the income tax department was expected to respond to the letter at the earliest. The court adjourned the hearing and directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a further status report of the investigation by April 2021. </p>
