<p>Sidlaghatta: Opposition Leader in Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanswami strongly pitched for abolition of Waqf Board, set up since pre-Independence. </p><p>He was speaking after receiving petitions from people at the ancient Anjaneyaswami temple near Belluti village in Sidlaghatta taluk on Saturday. He led a delegation of BJP leaders to visit the temple, a disputed site and collected petitions from the public. </p><p>Questioning the existence of Waqf Board, he demanded the immediate abolition of the board. Narayanswami further said that three teams have been formed by the party that will tour throughout the state to collect representations from those who are caught in the Waqf row. "We will raise the issue in the winter session," he added. </p><p>"The Anjaneyaswami temple in Belluti village is one of the ancient temples in the taluk. But it is condemnable that the temple land is notified as Waqf property. Interestingly, there is not a single Muslim family in the village, yet the temple property is notified as Waqf property. This indicates heights of Congress' appeasement politics," he decried. </p><p>When mediapersons brought his attention to the fact that the it has been notified since 2019 when the BJP government was in power, he said whoever was responsible for this mess, must be sent to jail. </p><p>Former MP S Muniswamy, former MLA Y A Narayanswami and others were present. </p>
