<p>Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), the state-run manufacturer of the iconic Mysore Sandal Soap, recorded its highest-ever monthly turnover of Rs 186 crore in May — a landmark achievement in its 108-year history.</p><p>In a statement released on Tuesday, Minister for Large and Medium Industries M B Patil said the company had set a sales target of Rs 151.5 crore for May, but exceeded expectations by Rs 35 crore, achieving 125% of the target and registering a 15% growth.</p><p>Of the total turnover, exports accounted for Rs 1.81 crore. The company’s previous highest monthly turnover was Rs 178 crore in September 2024. On average, the KSDL’s monthly sales range between Rs 135 crore and Rs 140 crore, making May’s numbers a significant leap,” he said. </p><p>Last month, KSDL was caught in a controversy over the appointment of Telugu-Tamil actress Tamannaah Bhatia as its new brand ambassador for Mysore Sandal Soap on May 22.</p><p>The move sparked widespread criticism, but the minister defended the decision as a step towards expanding the brand’s national appeal.</p><p>Highlighting the company improving its operational efficiency significantly over the past two years without major investment in new equipment, KSDL chairman C S Nadagouda disclosed that the company is preparing to launch a new range of perfumes soon. </p>
