Following directions by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has initiated the process of electoral roll revision in the state, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, next year.
Addressing the media in Bengaluru on Wednesday, CEO Sanjiv Kumar said that while pre-revision activities like preparation of publicity materials and house-to-house visit, were taken up from July 15, revision activities will be initiated from October 10.
The CEO said that claims and objections could be filed till November 20, and the same will be disposed before December 20. The final publication of the photo electoral rolls will be January 4.
Kumar also said that those who will be attaining the age of 18 as on January 1, 2019, can enrol their names in the voters’ list.
The CEO has invited claims and objections for the draft electoral rolls of all Assembly constituencies, except the constituencies where by-elections to the three Lok Sabha and two Assembly
segments.
As on May 2018, there were 5.06 crore voters in the state. As per the draft roll of 224 constituencies, the numbers have reduced to 5.03 crore, following deletions. Of the 5.03 crore voters, 4.65 lakh voters are in the age-group of 18-19 (M - 2.68 lakh, F - 1.97 lakh).
As per the draft roll of the 198 constituencies (segments not going to bypolls) the total number of electors stand at 4.48 crore.
Kumar said that Bengaluru South Assembly constituency had the highest number of voters enrolled - 5.97 lakh; while Sringeri had the lowest number of electors - 1.65 lakh.
