All should cultivate quality of loving nature: Orissa High Court Judge Krishna Dixit

Hubballi: "A sense of care and love for the environment should be nurtured in the minds of children. All should cultivate the quality of loving the nature and the responsibility to protect it", said Orissa High Court Judge Krishna Dixit.

Speaking at the valedictory of the Air Pollution Control Awareness Month organised by the Transport Department and Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) at the varsity at Navanagar in Hubballi, he stated that noise and air pollution caused by vehicles are increasing, and steps should be taken towards creating a pollution-free environment.

Even the water we drink is polluted, and studies showed that even mother's milk is contaminated. The heavy traffic causes serious inconvenience to schoolchildren. A strong and healthy generation cannot be built in a polluted environment. We must work towards creating a healthy environment, Justice Dixit noted.

Unlike the rivers in European countries, rivers in our country are polluted. Our bodies and minds must be kept clean, and we must live without damaging the creation of God, he said.

Stressing the need to read Kannada literary works, he also said Kannada is a language stronger than Sanskrit.

Karnataka State Bar Council chairman V D Kamaraddi stressed the need to grow more trees.

KSLU Vice-Chancellor C Basavaraju, who presided over the function, highlighted the importance of environment protection through proper awareness.

Transport Department Additional Commissioner K T Halaswamy, and Joint Commissioner Siddappa Kaller also spoke, and explained the measures being taken to reduce air pollution.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of essay writing and drawing competitions.
