A musical fest by the best

The Academy of Music, Chowdiah Memorial Hall is organising the ‘Academy of Music Chowdiah Awards’ and ‘K K  Murthy Memorial Music Festival 2009’ from November 21 to 25 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall as part of the golden jubilee celebrations.

On November 21, the lobby concert will be held at 4.45 pm. As part of this, Meghana Madhusudan and team will present a Carnatic vocal recital. The festival will be inaugurated by Justice Shylendra Kumar, judge, Karnataka High Court at 6.15 pm. C N Ashwathnarayan will release a souvenir on the occasion. Medha, a museum of musical instruments will also be inaugurated by C G Krishnadas Nair, former chairman, HAL. This will be followed by a violin concert by vidhushi A Kanyakumari and an ensemble by 25 violinists.

On November 22, the academic session will be held from10.30 am to 12 noon. There will be a lecture demonstration on ‘The Raga in Hindustani Classical Music’ by K S Vaishali and team. The lobby concert at 4.55 pm will have master Praveen Hugar and team presenting Hindustani (sitar) recital. At 6.15 pm, a saxophone concert will be presented by Kadri Gopalnath. He will be accompanied by A Kanyakumari (violin) B Rajashekar (morsing),  Rajendra Nakod (tabla) and B Hari Kumar (mridangam).

On November 23, from 10.30 am to 12 noon, there will be a lecture demonstration on kuchipudi by Veena Murthy Vijay along with her disciples Shama Krishna and Sangeetha Panish. At 4.45 pm, Aparna Bhat and team will render Hindustani vocal recital. A Hindustani vocal concert by M Venkatesh Kumar, accompanied by Vasanth Kanakapur (harmonium), Gurumurthy Vaidya (tabla), will held at 6.15 pm. At 8 pm, a Carnatic vocal concert by Ranjani and Gayathri will be presented. They will be accompanied by H N Bhaskar (violin), K Arun Prakash (mridangam) and N Guruprasad (ghatam).

On November 24,  from 10.30 am to 12 noon, there will be a lecture demonstration on ‘Marvellous Musical Compositions from ‘Abhyasa Gana to Sabha Gana’ by Dr Shreekantham Nagendra Shastry and disciples. At 5.15 pm, ‘Academy of Music Life Time Achievement’ will be presented to Pandit Vasanth Kanakapur by Mallikarjuna Kharge, Union Minister for Labour and Employment.

‘Academy of Music Chowdiah Awards 2012’ will be presented to presented to T K Murthy and Mysore Nagaraj and Mysore Manjunath by justice Vikramjit Sen, chief justice, Karnataka High Court. This will be followed by a flute concert by Pravin Godkhindi. He will be accompanied by  Subhankar Banerji on tabla. There will also be a jugalbandi by Jayatheerth Mevundi (Hindustani vocal) and Prakash Sontakke (slide guitar) accompanied by Pandit Narendra Nayak (harmonium).

On November 25, at 10.30 am, there will be a lecture demonstration on ‘Nuances of Rhythm in Hindustani Music’ by Pandit Viswanath Nakod, accompanied by Sri. Rajendra Kumar (violin). At 4.45 pm, master Nishanth and party will render a Carnatic (vocal) recital. At 6.15 pm, a violin duet will be presented by Mysore Nagaraj and Mysore Manjunath. They will be accompanied by T K Murthy (mridangam), B C Manjunath (mridangam) and Giridhar Udupa (ghatam).
