While many believe that ‘all you need is love’, a chocoholic believes that ‘all you need is chocolate’. Coming together this ‘World Chocolate Day’ are chocolate lovers in the city who share some of the interesting chocolate combinations they’ve had till date.

.
Sara Samuel, a graduate student, believes that she’s the biggest chocolate lover in the city. She says, “I eat chocolate all the time. I’ve also never met a chocolate that I don’t like. It makes me happy and who would not want to be!” Sara also loves baking with chocolate, especially ‘choco lava cake’ and ‘chocolate mousse’. “I recently watched a video by Gordon Ramsay where he made ‘blondies’ — a white chocolate version of brownies. It looked absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to make that soon,” she expresses.

Adding to the list of interesting chocolate dishes is also Hiren Doshi, a business developer. He says, “My wife and kids also love chocolate. We always have 30 varieties of chocolate at home that we like to binge on at least four days a week. One of the unique chocolate dishes we’ve had so far is the ‘chocolate pasta’ and ‘chocolate pakoda’. The children absolutely love the pasta. The ‘pakoda’ is one of my favourites though. The chocolate is gooey and sticky when you bite into it. It’s absolute bliss!”

With chocolate becoming an international phenomenon of sorts, we’ve adopted this ingredient in almost everything we have these days. Whether it’s buying a jar of ‘Nutella’ to spread on your bread and ‘roti’ or finding a high-end restaurant that serves the best chocolate-based desserts in town, chocolate lovers want it all.

But for Sacha Arora, an expatriate and homemaker, it’s the ‘chocolate dosa’ she had in South Africa that tops the list. She says, “When I went back home for vacation, I found an Indian restaurant that serves this dish. The chef serves it as a dessert. The ‘dosa’ is crisp, just like the ‘masala dosa’, and it has the chocolate spread on it. It was absolutely delicious and I loved every bite of it.” Sacha has also tried to make it at home for her daughter Priyanka. Last week, she made a ‘chocolate mousse flan’ and to celebrate this day, she plans to try her hand at making ‘chocolate lava idli’.

But not all the experimentation with chocolate pays off. Evelyn Stephens, a chocolate lover, says, “I remember trying a ‘jalapeno chocolate tart’ and it wasn’t good at all. I think they were trying one of those classic chilli and chocolate combinations, but it didn’t give the desired results. However, the ‘chocolate momos’ that I had were great. I liked the fried ones better than the steamed though.”

As today is ‘Eid’ and people are off from work, chocolate lovers are excited to celebrate the day with plenty of chocolate around. Hiren says, “We love to embrace our love for chocolate and are going to do just that today. We hope to find some new places to try a few chocolate-based dishes and make life sweeter.”
