'Audience is recognising talent and good films'

Since I am busy in the promotion of my film, I really want to look gorgeous in the pictures taken by the shutterbugs,” (laughs) says newbie Rehyna Malhotra, the lead actress of Babloo Happy Hai. Recently in town for the promotion of the film, the actress shares with Metrolife her excitement for the film and her foray in the tinsel town.

“I always aspired to be an actress. To fulfil my dream I used to bunk my mathematics coaching classes to attend dance classes. Somehow, one day my parents caught me red-handed. I cannot forget how much my father scolded me,” recalls Rehyna.

Born in Kashmir, Rehyna has lived in different cities of the country as her father was in a transferable job. “I completed my schooling from Bangalore and thereafter moved to Mumbai to pursue my passion,” says the newcomer, who has been struggling to get a role from the last three years.  “ I don’t remember how many auditions I have  given so far. Some were genuine, while some were fake auditions. After two years of constant struggle I got a chance and that too without an audition I got the role of ‘Ghazala’ in Babloo...,”  she exclaims.

Starting with a low-budget film by Nila Madhab Panda, the director of I am Kalam, Rehyna is confident that the audience will appreciate this film too. She compares the film with Gangs of Wasseypur and BA Pass. “The audience is recognising talent and good films. They have started believing in new story without considering the fact whether the film features fresh faces or some well-known ones. It’s the story that sells in today’s industry,” says Rehyna.

Interestingly, the actress is so much into films that she is taking dance classes that teaches ‘Bollywood style’. She has learned jazz too. In her spare time, she loves to watch films, try to make herself look better on screen and keep fit. “If you are in the industry you have to do all these things to sustain yourself,”  she says sagely.
