BCU students thought questions out of syllabus, but told otherwise

Students of BCom writing an exam at the Bengaluru Central University (BCU) have alleged that questions carrying nearly 28 marks were not covered by their faculty during online classes.

Several of the students who appeared for the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) paper are afraid of scoring low because they either could not attend the online classes due to poor network or their faculty did not finish the portions.

“This is a new subject introduced in 2016 and it is a tough one,” said a student from Maharani Lakshmi Ammani College, Malleswaram.

“Majority of the questions (in the paper) came from the syllabus that was not taught,” the student said.

Another student from KLE College, Rajajinagar, said as per his understanding, questions for nearly 28 marks out of the 70-mark paper were out of the syllabus.

“But teachers are saying that the questions are from the syllabus and they weren’t covered by the teachers concerned.” Faculty who taught the papers to say that those setting the question paper should have considered the pandemic situation.

Reacting to the issue, Prof Eswar Reddy, chairman of, Board of Examiners for Commerce, said: “We have cross-verified with some of the faculty teaching the subject and they said nothing is outside the syllabus. (The issue) came up because some colleges didn’t cover the syllabus.”
