<p>Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) booked 58 school bus drivers on Monday for driving under the influence of alcohol.</p>.<p>These were out of 4,559 school buses checked on Monday morning in a special crackdown against drunk driving.</p>.<p>Drivers found positive were booked under the Motor Vehicles Act and their licences were sent to the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for suspension.</p>.Bomb threat to Bengaluru airport, schools in Udupi, Hassan a hoax: Police.<p>Traffic police data shows that 139 school bus drivers were caught drunk driving in 2024. This includes 21 drivers in September; 26 in August; 23 in July; 7 in February; and 16 in January, out of thousands of vehicles that were checked. The positivity rate ranged between 0.3 per cent and 0.7 per cent.</p>.<p>Last July, MN Anucheth, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), told DH that the police were considering invoking sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, if school bus drivers were found driving under the influence.</p>.<p>"We took this decision to invoke sections of the JJ Act, if we found repeat violations. We have not found such cases so far. We are also writing to school managements to take action against such drivers," he said.</p>
