<p>Bengaluru: A speeding ambulance driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, leaving a pushcart vendor dead and six others injured in Wilson Garden on Thursday, the police said.</p><p>The incident occurred on BTS Road near Shanthinagar around 8.30 am on May 1, according to the traffic police.</p><p>The ambulance driver, identified as 30-year-old Siranjeevi, was driving at high speed from the Shanthinagar Bus Station towards Wilson Garden when he crashed into Ramesh, a 49-year-old pushcart vendor, and his friend Shivaram, who were talking by the roadside.</p><p>The ambulance (KA 03 AB 3838) then collided with an autorickshaw. In the process, he also injured Nagaraju, 59, Somasundar, 60, Praveen Kumar, 26, Brahmananda Kumar, 24, and Pavan, 25. The ambulance then crashed into two more pushcarts before finally coming to a halt, the police explained.</p><p><strong>'Brake fail'</strong> </p><p>When the ambulance came to a stop, auto drivers and passersby caught hold of Siranjeevi and assaulted him, despite his claims that he was unable to apply the brakes. There was no one else inside the ambulance at the time, the police confirmed.</p><p>The seven injured people were taken to a private hospital. Ramesh, who had suffered grievous injuries to his chest, left hand, and left leg, succumbed to his injuries in the evening, a senior police official said.</p><p>Shivaram sustained serious injuries to his chest, hands, and head. Somasundar suffered injuries to his head and legs, while Nagaraju received fractures to his hands and legs. Praveen, Brahmananda, and Pavan sustained minor injuries.</p><p>The Wilson Garden Traffic Police have registered a case against Siranjeevi and detained him for questioning.</p><p>The Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) team visited the location and collected details from witnesses to establish the sequence of events.</p><p>Siranjeevi claimed that he could not apply the brakes and blamed the incident on a mechanical failure. The police are in the process of verifying his statement.</p><p>Ramesh, the deceased, owned a pushcart and sold fruits in the area. At the time of the accident, he had stocked up watermelons on the footpath and was selling them.</p><p>The police have registered a complaint from Ramesh’s brother Nagaraju, who also sustained injuries in the incident.</p><p>An FIR has been filed under BNS sections 281 (rash and negligent driving), 125(b) (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 106 (causing death by negligence).</p>
