Bengaluru police hunt for Tamil Nadu man who emailed & threatened to 'blow up' homes of CM Siddaramaiah, DCM DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru: Bengaluru police are hunting for a man from Tamil Nadu who allegedly sent emails threatening to blow up the residences of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. 

The emails were sent from [e-mail] to [e-mail] and [e-mail] at 4.23 pm on October 11. 

Aarna Ashwin Shekher, the purported sender, claimed that "four RDX  devices and (several) IEDs" had been planted in both residences and would be "detonated remotely". 

Taking no chances, police authorities deployed the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), along with canine squads, to comb through the premises. The threats were later declared a hoax, according to police. 

The inspector from the Halasuru Gate police station registered a suo motu case against Shekher under sections 351(4) (criminal intimidation) and 353(1)(b) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police added. 

"We have gathered information about the miscreant who hails from Tamil Nadu and has been repeatedly sending such threats. Efforts are on to nab him," a senior officer from the Halasuru Gate police station said. 

The cybercrime police will pursue the case from now, the officer added. 

On September 19, the High Court of Karnataka had received a similar threat email, followed by the Israeli consulate in Bengaluru three days later. Both threats were declared a hoax after thorough searches.
