Bengaluru Rapido customer adds a tip of Rs 500 for a Rs 200 ride; Reddit post goes viral

Titled 'Added a tip of 500 for a 200 ride', the post ended with the words, "We are so doomed," suggesting it was quite difficult to book a ride in Bengaluru.

Tipping is not a common practice in India, with many either slipping a Rs 10 note to a waiter or sometimes walking out of a restaurant without leaving any at all. But one case from Bengaluru has caught the attention of thousands because of a commuter's tipping behaviour while booking an auto ride.

What's the incident all about? A Reddit post from a Bengaluru-based Rapido customer is going viral, narrating what made them pay a huge tip to the driver amidst the frustration of booking an auto in the city.

Notably, the tip was more than the actual cost of the ride. The post suggested that the commuter paid an extra of Rs 300 to ride to their destination.

At 9:30 AM, the user tried booking a ride from Silk Board to Prestige Tech Park via Rapido. They started with offering a Rs 50 tip on top of the Rs 230 fare. Despite multiple attempts, no driver accepted the ride. This made them increase the tip as they desperately wanted to commute.

"The app showed Rs 230 so I added a tip of 50(without which getting a booking at that time of impossible, thanks to the govt and bs infra). No response, tried with various number uptil 120. Did not get any booking," the Redditor posted.

Wanting to try his luck, they then increased the tip to ₹420.

"I added a tip of Rs 420 and still no one accepted. There were plenty of autos showing up in the area but none accepted," the user wrote.

Did the cab finally arrive? It was unclear whether the huge tip worked.
